Warm Home Discount 2026: what it is and how to get your £150

The Warm Home Discount is a one off £150 credit on your electricity bill, for eligible households in England, Wales and Scotland. The scheme is run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Here's how it works this winter, what you may need to do and who to contact if something doesn't look right.

What is the Warm Home Discount?

It's a £150 credit applied to your electricity bill to help with winter costs. Credits are applied between October 2026 and March 2027. We aim to have all credits applied by 31 March 2027.

Who gets it?

There are two groups, and which one applies depends on where you live and the benefits you receive.

The Core Group (England, Wales and Scotland)

The DWP decides who is in the Core Group by matching benefits records. You don't need to apply. The DWP sends us lists of eligible Fuse customers every week between October 2026 and March 2027 and we apply the credit for everyone on them. Not being on the first list doesn't mean you won't be on a later one. The DWP sends batches until March, so your name may appear in a later round.

The Broader Group (Scotland)

If you're in Scotland and you're not already in the Core Group, you may be able to get the discount through the Broader Group. Eligibility for this group is decided by us, not the DWP, and you do need to apply. Applications are expected to open around early November 2026 and close around late January or early February 2027. Incomplete applications can't be credited, hence, it is important to finish the whole form.

Which supplier pays the discount?

Whoever supplied your electricity on 23 August 2026 pays your discount in England and Wales. Credits are never transferred between suppliers, even if you've since switched.

What to expect from the DWP

The DWP may write to you in one of two ways:

A letter confirming you're eligible

Letters start going out from 16 October 2026. You don't need to do anything. Your supplier credits your account once they receive your details. A letter in a partner's or household member's name is alright, as long as the meter point number (MPAN) matches your account. If your letter arrived more than a month ago and you haven't been credited, message us in the Fuse app.

A letter saying you may be eligible

This letter asks you to call the Warm Home Discount helpline to confirm.

  • Helpline number: 0800 030 9322
  • Helpline opens: 19 October 2026
  • Deadline to claim: 26 February 2027
  • Helpline closes: 31 March 2027

The helpline will ask for your account number. Your phone number is your account number.

Getting credited: what we can and can't tell you

Only the DWP can confirm whether you're eligible, so we can't tell you either way. We also can't promise a specific payment date. What we can say is that credits arrive between October and March. Once a credit has been applied, you'll see £150 credit on your account. It goes towards your electricity bill, so if you're not sure where it is, message us and we'll check. If you haven't been credited and you have proof you're eligible, such as a DWP letter, send it to us and we'll look into it.

Can you ask for the credit to be withdrawn or refunded?

If you have already been credited, the discount is meant for your electricity bill, so it will go towards your next bill.
