Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) at Fuse Energy: our tariff, rates and how to apply
Fuse Energy is a Mandatory SEG Licensee under the Smart Export Guarantee Order 2019. That means if you generate your own low-carbon electricity at home and export some of it back to the grid, we will pay you for every kilowatt-hour you send our way. This page sets out our SEG tariff, the rate we pay, who is eligible, and exactly how to apply.

Our status as a SEG licensee
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is an Ofgem-administered scheme that requires licensed electricity suppliers to pay small-scale generators for the electricity they export to the National Grid1. Fuse Energy is a Mandatory SEG Licensee under the Smart Export Guarantee Order 2019 and appears on Ofgem's list of SEG licensees2.
You can hold your SEG tariff with any SEG licensee: your export payments do not have to come from the supplier that provides your electricity or gas. So whether you already buy your energy from Fuse or not, you can apply for our SEG tariff.
Our SEG tariff and rate
What rate does Fuse Energy pay for exported electricity?
Fuse Energy's SEG tariff is called Single Rate Variable Export and pays 13p per kWh for every kilowatt-hour of electricity you export to the grid, credited to your account monthly.
- Tariff name: Single Rate Variable Export
- Export rate: 13p per kWh
- Payment frequency: monthly. Your export earnings are credited to your account every month, based on actual export meter readings.
- Who can get it: all eligible customers, including export-only customers who buy their electricity from another supplier.
- Rate reviews: the rate is variable and reviewed quarterly, so it can go down as well as up. In line with the SEG rules, it will always remain above 0p per kWh.
Who is eligible for the SEG?
The SEG covers five low-carbon technology types: solar photovoltaic (solar PV), wind, micro combined heat and power (micro-CHP), hydro, and anaerobic digestion (AD)1. Your installation must be located in Great Britain and have a total installed capacity of no more than 5MW (or 50kW for micro-CHP)1.
For most homes, that means a rooftop solar PV system, with or without a home battery. You will also need:
- An MCS certificate (or equivalent), proving your system was installed by a certified professional to UK standards.
- DNO approval, which is your G98 or G99 form confirming your local Distribution Network Operator has approved the system's connection to the grid.
- A meter that can record your exports, so we can pay you on actual readings.
You do not need to be an existing Fuse Energy supply customer: export-only applications are welcome.
How to apply
How do I apply for Fuse Energy's SEG tariff?
If you already have an export MPAN, you can sign up in the Fuse app in under 3 minutes. If you don't have one yet, chat to us and we'll generate it for you: send us your MCS certificate and DNO approval (G98 or G99 form), we raise the request with your DNO (in most regions), and the export MPAN is usually created within 2 to 4 weeks.
Getting set up takes four simple steps:
- Sign up or chat to us. If you already have an export MPAN, simply sign up on the Fuse app in under 3 minutes. If you don't, chat to us to get started.
- Send us your documents. For us to generate your export MPAN, we'll need a copy of your MCS certificate and your DNO approval (your G98 or G99 form). These prove your generation system was professionally installed and approved to connect to the grid. If you don't have them to hand, your installer can provide copies - they hold both from the original installation.
- We raise your export MPAN request. We submit your details to your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to create your export MPAN. This is the unique number that lets the grid recognise the electricity you send back, and in most regions you don't need to do anything here. A small number of DNOs don't accept requests raised by the supplier and instead need you or your installer to contact them directly - if that applies to your region, we'll let you know and guide you through it. The DNO usually creates your export MPAN within 2 to 4 weeks.
- You start earning. Once your export MPAN is live and energised, we enrol it onto your account and you begin earning on our Single Rate Variable Export tariff, credited monthly.
