Understanding Fuse Energy activation

Activation is your first step towards greater energy freedom. By activating your Fuse Energy account and devices, you gain access to features that put you in charge of your home's energy. This includes automated meter readings, eligibility for smart-meter-dependent tariffs, and the ability to monitor and manage your energy use directly from your phone.

Why activation matters for your energy control

Activating your Fuse Energy account unlocks its full capabilities. You can manage your usage, costs, and contribute to a more efficient energy system. This process empowers you with control and capability through Fuse's services and app.

What you'll need before you start

Before you begin, gather a few essentials for a smooth activation. You will need the specific Fuse Energy service or device you wish to activate, along with any necessary account details. This might include your registered phone number or email address for logging in, and details about your smart meter or EV charger. Having these ready will help you move through the guided steps in the Fuse app or online portal without interruption.

Activating your Fuse Energy account

Getting started with your Fuse Energy account is quick and secure, putting you in charge from the very first login.

First-time login and verification

To log in for the first time, you will typically use your registered phone number or verified email address. Fuse Energy offers secure login options such as a one-time password (OTP) sent via SMS to your phone, or a magic link sent to your verified email address. Both methods ensure your account remains secure and accessible. Magic links, for instance, provide a unique, secure URL that logs you in automatically without needing a password, provided your email is already verified.

Navigating your new Fuse app dashboard

Once logged in, your Fuse app dashboard becomes your central hub for energy management. Here, you can manage your account and activate various features. The app allows you to view your energy usage, access billing information, and explore different settings. You can easily add new properties or submit meter readings directly through the app, giving you a clear overview of your energy landscape.

Connecting your smart meter

Connecting your smart meter is crucial for accurate billing and unlocking advanced tariff features.

Ensuring your smart meter is online

Smart meters enable automated readings, which means you will not need to submit manual readings. They are essential for eligibility for smart-meter-dependent tariff features. A smart meter is considered "online" when it is actively sending remote readings within the last two days. If your meter is not online, it might be in a "connecting" state, meaning the initial connection is in progress.

What happens if my smart meter isn't online?

If your smart meter is not online, it means it is not actively sending readings. This can affect automated billing and eligibility for certain tariffs. You can often check its status in the Fuse app. If it remains offline, contacting customer support can help diagnose and resolve the connection issue.

It is also important to note that the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) is being phased out. The phase-out of the RTS signal started on 30 June 2025. If you have an RTS meter, your current supplier is responsible for replacing it with a smart meter, usually free of charge, before you can fully benefit from modern energy services.

Troubleshooting common smart meter connection issues

Occasionally, smart meters can go offline or experience connection issues. If your smart meter is not sending readings, first check the meter itself for any error messages or low battery indicators (especially for gas meters). If the issue persists, the Fuse app often provides troubleshooting steps or directs you to contact customer support. Utilising in-app support or Fuse's customer service can help resolve more complex problems.

Setting up your EV charger

Integrating your electric vehicle (EV) charger with the Fuse app enhances your control over charging and can help optimise your energy usage.

Integrating your EV charger with the Fuse app

You can connect your EV charger directly through the Fuse app. This typically involves searching for your EV brand within the app, then logging in with your manufacturer account credentials. Once connected, your charger is linked to your energy supply, allowing for smarter charging management.

Maximising your EV charging benefits

Integrating your EV charger with the Fuse app allows you to take full advantage of smart charging features. While the legacy EV tariff was withdrawn from sale from 1 July 2026, connecting your charger can still help you monitor energy consumption and manage charging schedules more effectively. This ensures you are always charging efficiently and making the most of your energy plan.

Managing app features and properties

The Fuse app is designed to give you comprehensive control over your energy accounts and properties.

Adding and managing multiple properties

If you manage more than one property, the Fuse app makes it simple to add and oversee them all from a single interface. You can add a new property by searching for its address, postcode, or supply number within the app. This feature is particularly useful for landlords or those with multiple homes, allowing you to switch between properties and manage their energy needs effortlessly.

Submitting meter readings and tracking usage

For meters that are not smart or are temporarily offline, the Fuse app allows you to submit manual meter readings. You can easily select your electricity or gas supply and enter the numbers, or even upload a photo of your meter reading. The app also provides tools to track your energy usage over time, helping you understand your consumption patterns and make informed decisions.

Getting support for activation

Even with clear instructions, sometimes you might need a little extra help. Fuse Energy is committed to ensuring you have the support you need.

When to contact Fuse customer support

If you encounter any difficulties during activation, such as issues with logging in, connecting your smart meter, or integrating your EV charger, it is time to reach out. Confusion due to technical jargon or unexpected issues are common pitfalls, and Fuse's support team is there to help. Do not hesitate to contact them if you are unsure about any step or if something is not working as expected.

Accessing human assistance

Fuse Energy offers comprehensive customer support, providing guidance and resolving problems when you need it. You can typically access support directly through the Fuse app, ensuring that expert assistance is always just a tap away.

Managing your energy bills should be clear and easy to understand. Fuse Energy focuses on straightforward pricing, so you can see exactly what you are paying without unnecessary complexity. If you have a smart meter, you can view detailed usage data through the app or website, helping you understand how you can lower your bills. If you do not have a smart meter, Fuse Energy can upgrade your non-smart meter, completely for free. This can make it easier to track spending and make informed decisions about your energy use.
